20th Ex Tempore Painting Contest

The Jubilee Ex Tempore Painting Contest, celebrating its 20th edition, will once again attract artists enamored with the photogenic charm of Novigrad. This year, the event will take place in autumn, on Sunday, November 3rd, in the beautifully restored green oasis of Irma Benčić Park. Throughout the day, this vibrant space by the picturesque Mandrač harbour will serve as the main venue, filled with easels where artists will work from morning until late afternoon, creating their masterpieces to be judged by a professional panel.

This unique Ex Tempore painting contest, where participants are required to create their artwork on-site and within the same day, will be held in a festive atmosphere during the popular two-day street food festival, Park Food Fest, on November 2nd and 3rd. The festival will serve as an inspiring backdrop for the artists, offering a pleasant break from their work, as they create based on one of three themes: "Mandrač," "Fishing," or "Fish and other marine life."

After the official award ceremony in Irma Benčić Park, the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Novigrad Ex Tempore Contest will continue at the Park Food Fest, where all contest participants will enjoy a special gathering with refreshments.

On the day of the contest, from 9 to 10 AM, participants' canvases will be stamped, and they will be able to create their works throughout the city. All paintings must be submitted by 5 PM in Irma Benčić Park, with the award ceremony set to begin at 6 PM.

Until the judging and announcement of the winners, all the Ex Tempore artworks will be exhibited in the park, alongside the Park Food Fest, allowing visitors and passersby to admire them. We encourage participants to bring friends or family, as the street food festival will offer an abundance of delicious food, drinks, and entertainment for all ages, from 1 PM to 8 PM.
