Drinking that coffee in a nice and quiet place with a great view is a guarantee that the rest of the day will be just as great. So when in Istria, I’ll go to Umag, Novigrad, Buje or Brtonigla for such an experience.
Buoni Amici is my favorite place in Umag. Just as the name says, it is a place where I can have coffee with my good friends from Umag every time I’m in Istria. It is located just by the sea, and you can literally walk into the sea from the terrace. During sunny days, there’s nothing better than a good cup of coffee, the smell of the sea and the warmth of the sun on your face!
But Umag is not the only place where I love to enjoy my favorite fragrant black drink: Novigrad‘s Vitriol, which offers coffee made in several different ways, as well as a chance to enjoy a tasty crostata or a croissant. Whichever you choose, you can’t go wrong.
Good coffee is also to be had at the Food & Vine Primizia restaurant in Brtonigla, which is part of San Rocco hotel’s superb offer. This place has, for years now, been one of the best parts of the local tourism offer. Even the coffee is exceptional there: served with a tasty cookie, it should be drunk slowly, made to last until lunch. Because, you see, this restaurant’s food and wine offer also deserve a chance.
When the hubbub of a small seaside town gets too much for me, I like to go to Buje. Even though it’s not a seaside town, the view from the hill it sits on stretches all the way to the beach. At the very center of town, by the roundabout, there is my favorite coffee bar, the caffe bar Circolo. It’s a place which offers more than just good coffee: a nice salty sandwich or a doughnut will stay in good memory long after its taste is gone from my mouth.
