For us individuals, wellness provides a relatively quick route to improving the quality of our lives. You know, that fabulous feeling of lightness after a massage, like a snowflake drifting in the air without a care in the world. I’ll admit, I’m an addict for basically every type of wellness. Well, except those aimed at women. I like that feeling of contentment and fulfillment, and each and every one of you will agree with me when I say that you can’t beat the feel of a smooth and healthy skin of the face and body. It’s so much more pleasant to go to bed and fall asleep completely relaxed.
I’ll admit that I have spoiled myself with little things like creams, oils, even dried flowers (lavender is my fav!). I buy them whenever I visit a wellness center because they can remind me of the wonderful moments of relaxation every day. In fact, these are little instant wellness moments that can boost my mood in a second.
In time I’ve learned how to recognize a great wellness offer. The key for me is not just the center itself, but also the region where it is located. In this case, the Northwest Istria Cluster offers its own kind of wellness with its fantastic gastronomic offer, and like me, you also undoubtedly love a healthy meal and drink. Anything that reduces stress and makes a person happy and fulfilled is a kind of wellness, and that’s a fact. Moreover, first-grade olive oil and spices coming from a region bathed in sunshine, sea and fresh air are not just a spectacle for your palate, but can also occasionally, in moments of complete decadent and sensual abandon, be used for body care or even better, massage for your partner.
Peace and quiet are luxuries that modern society desperately lacks, especially in the hustle and bustle of cities and business. It is precisely that untainted beauty of calm that this region takes great lengths to nurture, combining modern as well as ancient forms of care and healing. If you asked me about my favorite kind of massage, I would definitely have to say Tibetan bowl sound massage. Why? Maybe it’s the kid in me, the one that grew up in a musical family, but the minute that therapist sets in place the three Tibetan singing bowls and starts the massage, you slowly start disappearing with every new vibration, becoming one with your environment… There, I just got goose bumps thinking about it. Yep, that’s how good it is.
The beauty of this type of massage is that you’re not lying there naked, so you can go in wearing light sports clothes, lie down on the massage table and just let go. The sound and vibration massage has multiple effects on the body. It deeply relaxes the muscles and joints, and it also brings back the harmony to every cell. It has been shown to improve self-confidence and even creativity, by clearing the mind from all heavy thoughts and blocks. It is ideal for all those suffering from pains, insomnia, even hypertension, since it slows down the breathing and pulse with deep vibrations going through your entire body, especially the parts the bowls are placed against. I remember my first sound massage; at the end of the treatment I was literally hugging the therapist, thanking her profusely.
But it’s not just the Tibetans who were familiar with the benefits of sound massage. The highly meditative state that all wellness lovers know can also be achieved through sound massages such as the Australian didgeridoo baths, East Asian gongs of different sizes, and drums. In those massages, you will typically be lying on a sponge and eventually be covered by a blanket, as the sounds and vibrations of the large instruments wash over and relax your body.
But don’t look at this text as an advertisement; look at it as an opportunity to try out beautiful new types of massages, and discover a new passion, just like I did.
