As the old saying goes, the holiday season begins when Mariah Carey sings her famous song. But do not wait for the Christmas playlists to hit the radio stations (haven’t they already !?). Start thinking right now what would be the best way to spend the last weeks of the old and the first days of the new year. What would I suggest, you ask? My answer is short and clear: Northwestern Istria! My and your favorite destination is once again preparing interesting holiday events, ideal for spending time with family or friends, and there will be some entertaining events for recreation and active life aficionados as well.
Everywhere You Go, There are (Christmas) Fairs
Seasonal city fairs are an ideal opportunity to buy unique gifts, but also to socialize and sample scrumptious local delicacies and lovely beverages.
Novigrad begins its holiday story on December 12th, when the Christmas fair called Novigrad Xmas Joy opens. The four-day event, in addition to the sales and exhibition program, brings much entertainment and children’s content, as well as musical performances and a rich gastronomic offer. See you in the tent on the main square!
As every year, Umag is preparing its favorite UMAGic holidays. The Umag city streets and squares will once again be filled with many entertaining and concert events, which will run from the 19th of December until the 31st of December when a cheerful New Year’s Eve scheduled with a rich program.
Sports and Recreation Know No Winter
If you are one of the people who do not like to “laze away” the holidays, Northwestern Istria will be just to your liking. In mid-December, there is a traditional Walking along the Parenzana trail which will take you down a route from Buje to Grožnjan and back. If you haven’t already, it’s time to get to know this unique European path of health and friendship!
On Saint Stephen’s Day itself, the 5th edition of the Ho! Ho! Ho! Run will start from the center of Umag. The running route runs along the coast in a 5 km long circle. The whole race has a humanitarian character, that is, it is organized for the purpose of raising funds for the procurement of radiological equipment at the Umag Health Center.
On the first day of 2020, the lovers of the two-wheeled life will come to their own, because then the traditional New year’s bike ride will take place.
The ride starts from the main square in Umag at noon, with a route of 30 kilometers, going all the way to the tourist resort of Kanegra and then back to Umag. Don’t miss out on a great opportunity to start the new year in a healthy and dynamic way!
