With the first gorgeous sunny days, I always get the irresistible desire to get around and stay outdors, but I can get terribly frustrated when I realize that a day of walking means several days of exhaustion and pain. We all know that spending time in the nature improves our physical fitness and raises our energy levels, but how do we pick our activities?
Special ornithological reserve Palud
I like to take things slow; I never miss my light strolls, even in the winter, and what is bird-watching if not a long stroll with a lot of breaks! And after learning the names of all the birds in the woods near me (which took a lot of patience), I decided to get more ambitious. How many of the 219 bird species of the Istrian ornithological reserve outside Rovinj will I get to see in this year’s spring migration? I don’t know; but therein lies the challenge!
Caves are a good place to visit regardless of the time of the year: in the summer they are refreshing, in the winter mystical, in the fall calming, and in the spring they will protect you from the rain! The cave with the oldest remains of prehistoric man found in Istria is located in the protected area of Lim Channel. In order to get to the 105-meter-long cave you will have to cross 360 meters of the beautiful yet steep forest. While somewhat more demanding than the walk around the ornithological reserve, it is definitely worth the effort! Namely, the cave that used to be the home of the hermit St. Romuald of Ravenna is decorated by cave decorations, located only on the left walls of the cave.
In order for rafting to be exciting, the river has to be overflowing! That is why spring is the best time to survey your surroundings and decide which of the many regional beauties you want to embark on. Going down the rapids of a river is a great way to spend your day off, but it is also a fantastic and entertaining manner of recreation if aerobics classes are starting to really get on your nerves. Slovenia’s emerald beauty is one of the most highly praised rafting spots in Europe and we recommend it as a great adventure.
