Autumn Flavored Events…
I will be tasting the local wine varieties at the Wine & Walk by the sea on September 28th in Novigrad, when I will enjoy this unique event with other lovers of walking with a glass of wine. The Park Food Fest will be held in Novigrad for the first time this year. On October 5th, the parks in the Old Town of Novigrad will be serving street food based on Istrian cuisine and made from famous local ingredients, such as top quality seafood and truffles.
I never miss the October Mushroom Days in Brtonigla. The two-day mushroom event has both an educational and a competitive side, so on Saturday, I will attempt to collect edible mushrooms in the forest, while Sunday is reserved for the preparation of a mushroom pot and for the tasting of fine products like honey, olive oil and wine. In November, however, it is time to celebrate St. Martin in Momjan, with the awesome Momjan Muscat!
Plenty of Choices for Athletes and Amateurs
In parallel with the gastronomic celebration of autumn, there are various sporting events taking place in this part of Istria in autumn. For the first time, I plan to try my hand – or feet – at a 5 km recreational race. For that I have chosen the Novigrad Cittanova Run, which will be held in parallel with the international cycling marathon Istria Granfondo. I’m not much of a cyclist, but I have a good appetite, so I will definitely visit this event as it also includes the Istria Granfondo Family & Gourmet Tour, a recreational ride which includes local delicacies at selected points.
There will also be events that I will not actively participate in, but I know I want to attend them. The Novigrad Colours of Tennis is a humanitarian event where tennis fans can face off with their favourite tennis idol, and the 4th Istria Youth Cup will bring together young people from some of Europe’s most famous soccer clubs. Who knows how many of them will grow up to be big stars someday, and I’ll be able to brag about having watched them play in Novigrad while they were still unknown!
