Of course, the Sweet Wine and Walk has to present the local winemakers and their quality offers. Meet the five whose wines you will be enjoying this March!
The Sinković Winery boasts a family tradition of more than 100 years, and their wines have been enjoyed from Venice to the Vienna Courts. Today, this renowned Momjan winery uses modern technology for processing and storing wine in a traditional basement ambience, thus combining the best of both worlds, the old and the new. Their Muscat and Malvasia wines are frequent guests at wine fairs.
The story of Kabola begins in 1891, and their vineyards are located on a hill called Stancia and at the location Kanedolo near Momjan. These locations make their wines special because of the characteristics of the soil that is mostly clay and rich in marl. The maceration of grapes in oak barrels and amphoras is another reason why these wines, such as their Malvasia Istarska, Malvasia Unica, Muscat Momjan, and Teran Amfora, feature a wonderful and unique taste.
The Kozlović family has been in the business of viticulture since 1904. Their plantations are located in the valley of Valli and in the Santa Lucia vineyard zone, where native Istrian varieties, such as Malvasia, Muscat Momjan, Muscat Rose and Teran are grown, as well as the international sauvignon blanc, cabernet sauvignon and merlot. The Kozlovic Malvasia won a silver medal at the Challenge International du Vin in France in 2016.
In Momjan and its region, the Brajko family is known for the production of fine wine, but also for the production of extra virgin olive oil. OPG Brajko is managed by a father and son team, Angelo and Kristjan, and in addition to their Muscat wine, their offer shines with olive oil from the Istrian Bjelica (Bjankera) variety.
The family winery of Prelac was founded twenty years ago, and the backbone of their offer are the autochthonous Malvasia wines, Refošk and the Momjan Muscat. However, in their vineyards, cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay varieties are also grown. Prelac Winery also produces champagne.
