For grumpy people like me, the ones not madly in love with physical activity, even light running, or jogging, requires an additional source of motivation. But I found a solution for that, too. In order to maintain the motivation for light morning and evening runs, I decided to avoid identical routes, and to, wherever possible, ensure that there was enough other attractive content on my route that will make me forget that I am (again) sweating while repeating an action that actually does not fulfill me with overwhelming joy, but is nonetheless good for my health. That’s why I especially enjoy the interesting and light running routes around Umag, Savudrija, Brtonigla, and Novigrad.
To go for a run early in the morning or in late afternoon down the coast, from Umag to the northernmost lighthouse in the Adriatic, the one in Savudrija, is a reward for your soul and body. You will see picturesque scenes along the way, and the trail is easy and convenient even for beginners. Another interesting landscape for runners to be is the descent from Karigador to Dajla, and then all the way to camp Mareda, situated north of Novigrad.
On this journey, you will pass through the colorful Dajla, known for its supreme wine and beautiful Benedictine monastery. At the end of the route, you will visit one of the premiere camping sites of that part of Istria.
Of course, for those who want something even more special, it is worth mentioning the short night races, which are occasionally organized under the stars and the bright skies, but in safe conditions and on marked trails, such as the Umag Night Run.
There are also some interesting trails that run along the numerous vineyards in that part of Croatia, and you can explore them all if you bring your favorite running shoes with you in order to really visit Northwestern Istria.
