Buje, Saturday morning. A line is forming, sampling glasses are being handed out, there’s chatting and happy faces eagerly awaiting another wine walk without compare. There’s 11 kilometres of walk through a maze of vineyards and olive gardens ahead of us, but there’s no rush, this is a calm and relaxed adventure.
Our starting place is the famous Santa Lucia vineyard and there’s an entire day full of heady aromas from master winemakers’ shops ahead of us, as well as delicious dishes from local restaurants and taverns. The experience is complimented by the picturesque view providing the perfect backdrop to a springtime wine walk. Another Istria Wine and Walk, another experience every wine lover will remember!
Our tour, in fine, warm weather gave us an opportunity to enjoy the calming atmosphere of Škarline nature park and its babbling brooks, and walkers’ attention was also grabbed by the view from Kastanjari hill of Ćićarija’s peaks and the distant deep blue sea.
Each of the seven rest stops offered new and interesting discoveries and encounters, from pleasant hosts and playful accordionists to nice – donkeys! Also, the programme included a visit to the interesting “Maslina” exhibit at Tigor gallery and to wine cellars near Brtonigla.
The end of the walk didn’t mean the day was over. We finished the fourth Istria Wine and Walk with a party in Buje, with live music and more fine wine and food, raising our glasses until late in the evening. Until next hangover!
