Škarline Nature Park
The small creek Škarline and its green canyon are a veritable green oasis. It is one of the smaller but also one of the most beautiful tributaries of the Mirna river. The road to it starts near Brtonigla – from the Nova Vas village. Two kilometers of unpaved road lead through beautiful vineyards, making it easier to bear, although in dry weather, you can also drive down that road. At the end of the road you will be rewarded with a beautiful meadow, featuring a bridge over a stream and two ponds. Just perfect for a picnic!
And that is not even the best part, because the entrance to the canyon is hidden. You have to cross the bridge and go down a steep slope, alongside the pond. This way you can walk all the way to the Mirna, enjoying the murmur of the streams and the refreshing shade of the canyon. Be sure to bring some good running shoes and some water and food with you, as the route is several kilometers long.
Right next to the border with Slovenia, a beautiful waterfall, a lake and an abyss lie hidden. The view of them cools down both body and mind, which is why forest poets from different parts of Europe come together here at this time of year. In 2011, a mulberry tree was planted there to commemorate these meetings. The road to the place is marked by a signpost at the crossroads near the village of Marušići, between Oprtalj and Buje.
In my opinion, this is the most beautiful cave in Istria and it is in Brtonigla. A visit to this Karst beauty will certainly cool you down because just by entering it, you will find yourself in somewhat lower temperatures. There are trails through the cave, so it can be easily visited by families with children who will certainly love limestone flowstones up to 13 meters high. They left me breathless!
And for those who may not be fond of nature and tranquility, a good cooldown can be found in one of the best aquaparks in this part of Europe – at Istralandia! If you go in the direction of Novigrad after your visit Mramornica, near Nova Vas you will be greeted with a real adrenaline experience sprawled on over 80 thousand m2! There are more than 20 different slides in the park and it also has the largest artificial wave pool in this part of Europe, definitely making it worth a visit!
