Northwestern Istria owes its charm in equal measure to its fascinating small towns situated on hilltops as well as to its beautiful coastal ones. The Istrian coast abounds in beautiful beaches on which you can relax, take a swim and have a good time. As preparation for the summer vacation we have chosen several of the most beautiful beaches in the area for you and gathered some useful information about them!
Although it may be most famous for the eponymous little town on top of a hill, the Brtonigla municipality also reaches the sea. And, boy, does it ever! Surrounded by idyllic nature the village of Karigador is among the favorite spots for locals because of its beautiful pebbly beaches and rocky shores. Loads of content and services in their vicinity and easy accessibility make the beaches of Karigador an excellent destination for different visitors, ranging from those who wish to have fun and engage in sports to families with children. Some of the beaches in coves near Karigador have been awarded the Blue flag.
Near the little town of Buje there is a lovely cove hidden by lush woods which provide an excellent shade. The long beach of the village of Kanegra, covered by fine pebbles is one of the most well known beaches in Istria. In addition to the clear blue sea, the Kanegra beach offers visitors diverse activities as well as many lovely places to enjoy food and drink. It can be reached via a walkway. While ideal for families with children who wish to make a day of it, Kanegra is no stranger to parties to which young people in search of a good time flock. In its vicinity there is also a nudist beach, or rather a nudist camp with a really beautiful beach.
The Karpinjan beach is situated in the eponymous cove near Novigrad. It is a pebbly beach that turns into a wild beach on one end. It is over 500 meters long and lies surrounded by a small pine wood. Thanks to its plentiful shade and lack of traffic it can be enjoyed by the young and the old as well as by families with small children. The beach features benches, showers and toilets so one can spend all day relaxing there. And entertainment? In addition to sunbathing and swimming, Karpinjan offers many activities – in its vicinity there are tennis courts and basketball courts as well as soccer and handball courts. If you do not fancy sports, never mind, by the beach you will also find a restaurant, a pastry shop and a coffee shop.
Not far from the town centre of Novigrad lies the paved and partly rocky beach Punto Mare. It is known for its two tidal pools with sea water. Punto Mare features showers, beach chairs and umbrellas as well as sanitary facilities while nearby you can find tennis courts and sand volleyball courts. Right next to the pool there is a snack and cocktail bar open till 1 am where concerts are organized in the cool evening hours of summer.
A bit farther from the centre of Novigrad, about 1 kilometer away, the tourist zone of the hotel Maestral is situated. Within it there is the eponymous pebbly beach that has paved sections and a gentle entrance into the sea. On the Maestral beach you can rent a beach chair, pedal boats and other things or you can enjoy the pool, tennis or any number of other sports. For the youngest there is an attractive aqua park! You can restore your energy at the nearby snack-bar and grill restaurant. A walkway from the centre of town leads to these beaches or you can drive and then walk from one of the parking lots in the vicinity.
Katoro – Polynesia
One of the most popular beaches in Umag is certainly Katoro which offers a little something for everybody. The south part of this recently done up beach is meant mostly for families and children, the north part has been envisioned as a relaxation space. Thanks to the newly built wide stairs the beach has opened up to the sea in a new way. It features all the necessary infrastructure while nearby there is a playground for children as well as loads of other content.
The Stella Maris Resort Beach - Pinna Beach
Approximately 3 kilometers from the centre of Umag you will find the Stella Maris Resort Beach, a favorite destination for families and generally one of the most famous beaches in this tourist village. Parents are simply crazy about it because it is a naturally shallow, sandy beach, well suited for children. The other reason parents rave about this beach is probably the impressive pine wood shade. The tourist village has an impressive horticultural aspect – this beach is especially abundant in green areas.
Laguna Stella Maris Beach
Right next to the Stella Maris Resort Beach and near Umag there is also a beautiful pebbly beach called Laguna Stella Maris. It is surrounded by a pine wood that cuts it off from the main road. This urban beach offers much entertainment and loads of content that will make you want to stay all day long. If you are not a fan of the many water activities on offer, you can have fun with the varied food and beverages offers.
