Program adaptation and continuous training
As a passionate cyclist with years of experience, and since recently also a convert to jogging, I am very conscious of how essential conditioning is, whether it is done on city roads or on forest trails. It is particularly important if, like me, you are preparing for your first half-marathon; a week of rest, and your body will already start to relax, forgetting all about those ten kilometers you have just mastered. I already knew beforehand that Istria was a paradise for cyclists, but only when I started jogging did I realize that it was ideal for this sport as well.
In addition to personal satisfaction, conditioning also results in improving and maintaining the level of fitness as well as the scores in competitions. For every sport, you need a specifically designed program, while the training itself also depends on the goals, level of preparation, age group and other factors.
Jogging and cycling along the coast of Northwest Istria
The trail I can personally recommend is the one along the waterfront between Dajla and Novigrad. It is about five kilometers long, and it passes some of Istria’s most beautiful beaches, and local camps. When it comes to conditioning, what definitely makes it a good spot is the outdoor fitness equipment that you can find at one of the camps next to Karpinjan Beach. You can start your route at the church in Old Dajla, head for the beach, and then just follow the trail along the waterfront.
There are many other interesting trails in Northwest Istria that are long enough for jogging. One of the most attractive ones is the promenade that leads from Umag to Kator along the waterfront. In Kator itself, you will also find a trim trail that you can use for conditioning.
Wellness as a key part of conditioning
One of the reasons why professional athletes often pick Istria for their seasonal training is its abundance of wellness centers, such as the Body Holiday sports-revitalizing center at the Sol Garden Istra Hotel. In addition to the fitness studio, the center also has an indoor half-Olympic pool and other wellness facilities necessary for seasonal training. Other wellness centers in Northwest Istria are equally well equipped. The Fusion Spa at the Meliá Coral Hotel offers an Oriental atmosphere, while Istrian Relax Village is one of the largest wellness centers in Umag, sprawling on three floors, with the surface of 1,600 m2.
Unlike conditioning, which depends on the sport you are training, every wellness center in Northwest Istria represents a great choice for athletes and recreational sports enthusiasts.
