This year’s holiday story starts with the Brtonigla Christmas Fair, on December 10th & 11th. The Fair takes place at the Saint Zenon square and is highly recommended to all people eager for a weekend of great atmosphere and in search of imaginative, original decorations and gifts.
If you find yourself in Umag this month, do not miss many of its fun events and concerts, all taking place in the streets and on the squares between December 16th and 26th under the joint name of “UMAGični blagdani”. This manifestation is also a great opportunity for buying original, handmade gifts for your favorite people, while gourmands can treat themselves to some amazing food and, of course, the staple of such events: mulled wine and tasty Istrian fritters. Sounds pretty magical, doesn’t it?
There are fun times happen in Novigrad too: from December 16th to 20th the town’s great square will host a Christmas Fair. This Fair includes great fun and merry music, all under a tent and, of course, plenty opportunities to shop for gifts and souvenirs.
For all those who don’t give up on physical activity even during these colder days, the Parenzana hiking trail is the way to go. In honor of the 114th anniversary of the first train ride from Buje to Poreč, on December 18th there will be a mass hike from Buje to Grožnjan and back. See you at the starting line, in front of the old Buje train station!
How is the new year best started? On a bike, of course! The now traditional New Year’s Bicycle Ride will start on January 1st from the Umag main square. All the participants will enjoy fresh air and an almost thirty kilometer ride along the beautiful Adriatic coast. There will, of course, also be a toast and cakes.
Just a few days later, all fans of cycling will get another opportunity for an exciting winter ride through nature. The Befane Bicycle Ride will take place on January 8th, starting in the village of Marušići and taking the cyclists along a thirty-five kilometer long macadam and woodland path.
And finally, let’s not forget the lovers of fine local cuisine. The restaurants of Umag, Novigrad, Brtonigla and Buje are currently the hosts of Adriatic Squid Days, celebrating the Adriatic Calamari, which lasts until January 8th. This holiday season, treat yourself to some tasty food and plenty of superb Istrian wine.
