The 4th Istria Granfondo, a large international road cycling marathon that is held in autumn, has just successfully come to a close. As the hosts of this important cycling event, the towns of Umag and Novigrad welcomed over 800 recreational and professional cyclists from 12 different countries, together with their friends and family.
Saturday was reserved for the recreational cycling marathon Family and Gourmet, which gathered 160 cyclists of all ages in the town of Novigrad while, on Sunday, those that were somewhat better prepared had the opportunity to test their skills on the Classic and Small tracks with a marathon that started and finished in Umag. Below are their impressions.
I competed for the first time at Istria Granfondo in the class Super Gentleman. The track was very demanding and the rain bothered us a bit, while some descents were even quite dangerous, so we made sure to ride very carefully. However, everything ended well, which is what matters the most in races, after all. I hope my results will also be good. The organisation was at a very high level, from the registration to everything else.
I’m from Hungary and this is my third time at Granfondo. For the last two years, I’ve been riding on the longer track, though I’m always a bit behind. I love Istria and love coming here, and I hope I’ll return here with my family soon. I hope to participate at the 5th Istria Granfondo next year, too!
It was great, this is my first time here and I rode on the shorter track. I was hoping for better weather, though. Unfortunately, my colleagues and I were already behind at the very beginning and couldn’t catch up with the team, so we rode the whole thing on our own. I’ll come next time and ride a bit more!
This is my first time at Istria Granfondo and I’m here with my team. The race was dangerous because it was slippery and dangerous today, but it was great and we would love to come next year.
I’m from Pazin and I ride for the cycling club Meridiana-Kamen Pazin. This is the fourth time I’m participating in this event. First there was rain in the morning, then there was wind, and we had cramps in our legs too, but in spite of all this I enjoyed myself very much. I don’t have any remarks, everything was organised perfectly and it was great!
I ride for the city cycling club Tuškanac and this is the first time here. The track is great, there are a lot of ascents and bumps in the road, and the wind was giving us a bit of trouble, too. The organisation was excellent and I hope to come again next year.
This year was the first time I participated. I rode on the small track in the Junior category and ended up fifth and won a prize. The track and the organisation were both excellent. The weather wasn’t that good today, but when it comes to the track itself and the configuration of the terrain, it was really first-class and well-marked, with safety personnel and policemen on the road, and the refreshment station was excellent. I’m definitely coming again!
Our experience was positive, the weather was alright and we didn’t mind the rain one bit. The track was well-marked and there were absolutely no problems. This weekend, I performed quite a feat because I also participated in the race in Austria yesterday. See you next year, the town is very nice.

The track is tops! I rode on the Classic track, everything was perfectly organised, I don’t have any remarks. There were signs, safety personnel and refreshment stations wherever it was necessary, so there were no problems whatsoever. See you next year, of course!
The track is good and excellently marked. At the 90th and 100th kilometre there were some demanding hills, but once you get past those and recover from them, it’s a smooth ride all the way to the finish line. My compliments on the organisation!

This is our first time here and we rode on the Classic track. It was nice and we hope we will win!
