Northwest Istria gets even more magical when you’re with friends, but it is also magically diverse. But how do you decide where to go? How do you please everyone? Some find luxury stressful and French creams acceptable only in cakes. All they want is to get away from the daily hustle and bustle. In order to make the choice of wellness center at least a bit easier for me and my friends, I have made a short guide to the best spa and wellness centers of northwest Istria.
Fusion Spa Wellness Center – Hotel Meliá Coral, Umag
Aromatherapy showers, massage techniques from Thailand, and a relaxation zone with teas and fresh fruit are my version of a dream weekend. In the long line of excellent features, what appeals most to me is the saltwater rain cave, while my friends will go crazy for the personalized facial treatments with top quality sea cosmetics.
The Body Holiday – Hotel Sol Garden Istra, Umag
They say an hour of massage with relaxing music can bring a person back to life. I believe that to many people it is very beneficial, but it is also a priceless experience to have an hour-long massage while chatting and giggling with friends I haven’t seen in ages! Especially if I can also get a body peeling with lavender flowers, and a gentle manicure and pedicure at Hotel Sol Garden Istra Wellness Center.
Carolea Spa – Kempinski Hotel Adriatic, Umag
When I was a little girl, I would spend hours floating on the surface of the water – it was my favorite part of swimming. That is why here I could try out something that has tempted me for years: the float tank! With cocktails and steam baths for one part of the group, and body and soul purifying treatments for the other, we could have ourselves an excellent time!
Istrian Relax Village – Hotel Sol Umag, Umag
Exotic massages are exactly what one should strive for when relaxing – unusual experiences that will enrich us, such as the volcano rock massage in the authentic Istrian ambiance. Hotel Sol Umag guarantees peace and quiet despite being the largest wellness center in the Umag area. Due to the fresh sea air on the walk along the beach next to hotel, you will wish to breathe the fresh summer air, and the excellent Istrian biosauna with aromatic Mediterranean herbs will make your wish come true!
Wellness Center Maestral – Hotel Maestral, Novigrad
Some mine and my friends’ arguments might sound ridiculous – for example when we argue about the best sauna around. Ana suggests we should find out once and for all at the wellness center of Hotel Maestral in Novigrad. I love the sauna, but whenever I hear the words “heated saltwater pool”, I know there is no chance that I will have time for the sauna. If like some of my friends, you always moan about not being able to go to the gym together, then use this opportunity to do it at the excellent fitness center of Hotel Maestral.
Spa Rituals – Hotel Nautica, Novigrad
Many of us are huge fans of wellness, always in search of new and unusual treatments. And the Philippine seashell massage at Hotel Nautica sounds so unusual that we just have to try it out! And so does the herb pealing of the Ritual Spices treatment.
Wellness San Rocco – Hotel San Rocco, Brtonigla
San Rocco, the finest small hotel on the Adriatic, which has attracted everyone’s attention with its fantastic Istrian specialties, is located in a small picturesque Istrian village. But to prove that quality olive oil isn’t just used for food, look to the San Rocco wellness treatments – that is, if you can ever get out of the heated indoor pool. Here you can also get on a bike and take a ride through the area where the key ingredients and recipes of the fantastic local cuisine come from.
Wellness Mulino – Hotel Mulino, Buje
In search of good food and unusual treatments, I have found something that brings together both: the chocolate treatment! Now that I have got to try! And after the calories – sports! Adrenaline junkies may insist on parachuting, but with my weight and dexterity, golf seems to present exactly the right level of adrenaline and effort that I am ready to exert.
Wellness Center Villa Rosetta – Hotel Villa Rosetta, Zambratija
Ancient Romans were the first to travel to the very west of Croatia for their well-deserved holidays. A therapeutic bath in combination with an anti-stress massage at Hotel Villa Rossetta holds great appeal to me and so does the option of falling asleep with the sound of the waves after a relaxing Turkish bath.
In the end my friends and I just decided to visit all of the centers, one at a time! But before we start our own tour, we are going to surprise one of our friends with a “His and Hers” gift certificate for her and her husband’s wedding anniversary. Excellent gift, wouldn’t you say?
