1. Tennis court availability
You’ll find 66 tennis courts in Umag alone. The most famous and the most attractive among them is the Stella Maris ATP Stadium. It is where the famous Umag ATP Tournament takes place and is therefore one of the most famous sports facilities in Croatia! The nearby Tennis Academy at Kator offers 25 clay and one hard court while Novigrad offers 23 clay courts, some of which are covered. Apart from excellent courts, this destination also offers professional trainers, sparing matches and tennis equipment rental.
2. Wellness for athletes
Relax in one of many local wellness centers, just like many sports teams that come here for preparations do. The biggest wellness center, the one in the Melia Coral Hotel, extends over 1200 square meters while the one in the Sol Garden Istria Hotel has a half-Olympic-sized pool. Of course, all venues have sports and other types of massages on offer.
3. Local cuisine
Without good, quality food you can’t replenish your strength nor have a good match. Istrian cuisine is already well known for its quality but we must point out that the local olive oils are among the best in the world. Also, in Istria you can enjoy many truffle-based dishes while fish is available during all seasons of the year.
4. Superb accommodation
Near all the tennis courts there is a number of hotels and other types of accommodation. Hotels and seaside villas with 3, 4 or 5 stars and rich wellness offers also feature cuisine adapted to people who work out.
5. Mediterranean climate
Spring and autumn in Istria are pleasant and the summer is long. The temperature averages at 18 degrees Centigrade and you can play tennis almost all year round. Once you’ve finished playing your matches, you can go and see some professional ones. The Memorial Slavoj Greblo Tournament and Pero Memorial Junior Tournament have just finished. Of course, there’s the tournament you don’t want to miss – the Umag ATP, to be held from July 15th to July 24th 2016.
