Music on every corner
Novigrad, September 4 – 26, 2015
What I like about the summer is the variety of music events, and what ‘s even better is that this atmosphere tends to carry on into the fall. They say that music is food for the soul, and it seems in Novigrad they really take this idea to heart, where the event Music on every corner lasts throughout the whole summer and stretches throughout the town. So if you find yourself in Novigrad in September, make sure to take a walk through the old town, where you will find hidden not only the numerous historical sites, but also different music ensembles bringing joy to the passersby in the evenings.
Shabby chic style fair
Brtonigla, September 5 – 6, 2015
Before this, I would recommend the Shabby chic style fair in the nearby Brtonigla. Numerous interesting educational presentations will be held to introduce visitors to the ancient trades of Istrian artisans, whose products could be seen at the local fairs that my grandfather used to take me to not so long ago. But there will also be music, a vintage car fair, as well as a small fair of local products that seems like an ideal place to find souvenirs worth taking home from your trip. These include local wines and olive oils, and make sure to pay attention to handcrafts from the Maison chic store, one of my favorite little one-of-a-kind furniture stores.
Istrian Wine Run
Umag, Stella Maris, September 6, 2015
If you have an adventurous spirit and enjoy the gifts of the Greek god Dionysus, then stop by Umag on September 6 for the second annual Istrian Wine Run. This is not about your physical fitness or competitive spirit, but a love of wine and good fun. The winner of the race will win his own weight in wine, another reason to stop by the local wine and delicacy stands and get a good bite to eat and a nice drink along the way. If you decide to wear a costume to distinguish yourself in the crowd of runners whose end destination is the Stella Maris resort, you will also have a shot at winning the prize for the best costumed runner of the race!
European Car-Free Day
Umag, Trg slobode, September 22, 2015
Recreational athletes who decide to visit this part of Istria in the off-season will find another interesting event in store in Umag this September: a bicycle ride to mark the European Car-Free Day. The goal of this event is to promote the bicycle as a healthy and sustainable mode of transportation, and participation is therefore free for everyone.
Hotel Sol Garden Istra, Sol Umag, Melia’ Coral, October 1 – 2, 2015
… and if you ask me, after a long bicycle ride, your best choice will be a relaxing bath and a chance for your exhausted muscles to recover. Therefore, if you decide to stay in this part of Istria a bit longer, Umag Welldays in October is a great opportunity to unwind at one of the excellent wellness centers of Umag hotels, restoring the energy you spent on different recreational activities that Istria is so rich in this time of the year. Get informed about the special discounts at the Sol Garden Istra, Sol Umag and Melia’ Coral hotels, and give in to the charms of the steam baths and the beneficial effects of the jacuzzi bubbles.
Brtonigla, October 24 -25, 2015
And since fall is already showing its face, it gives us an opportunity to try the best of what it has to offer! If you are no stranger to mushrooms, make sure to drop by for Mushroom days in Brtonigla, a region famous for its diversity of mushrooms and its mushroom picking tradition. This fall Brtonigla will again host the two-day event that includes a traditional mushroom picking competition and a sampling of mushroom dishes, a mushroom exhibition and an accompanying musical program, as well as my favorite: the mushroom stew competition. I will see you there!
