I’m embarrassed to admit but at my first Vegeta Croatia Open Umag I haven’t seen a single match. I was easily distracted with all the delicious food that was around. A first smell of food made my mouth water, and I forgot all about tennis. I was like a kid in a candy store!
The best restaurants of north-west Istria, Nono, Buščina and Pergola move their entire operation to Umag, to Naša kužina, a restaurant serving typical Istrian dishes with an elegant twist and affordable prices. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the food is awesome!
For fine dining experience head straight to Istria Gourmet Restaurant by San Rocco. Run by excellent Chef from San Rocco Restaurant in Brtonigla, Istria Gourmet Restaurant offers creative food from their à la carte menu, but for an ultimate foodie treat choose their multi-course tasting menu. It showcases the best of Istrian produce through delicious and creative dishes. Look for the detailed program as every year they host a Michelin starred guest chef. Last year we enjoyed food prepared by Emanuele Scarello from Agli Amici, a 2 Michelin star restaurant from Udine.
Istria is famed for its wines, especially white wine Malvazija Istarska. In cooperation with Vinistra, an assocciation of Istrian winemakers, crisp whites, refreshing local bubbly and bold reds are à l’ordre du jour here.
From live concerts, and DJ parties to more laid back live jazz sessions accompanied by Istrian delicacies (yes, more wine and food!), Vegeta Croatia Open Umag offers ten days of partying.
So even if tennis is not your game, Croatia Open Umag is definitely a place to be in Croatia at the end of July. And even more so for real tennis aficionados.
