The second Istria Wine & Walk takes place on May 21st and, by all accounts, we’re in for a memorable culinary and wine treat in Northwest Istria! Here’s the five reasons why I’m planning to go!
1. Spending time with my friends and other Istrian wine lovers
Istria Wine & Walk is an ideal opportunity for friends to meet up and spend a memorable day together. The eleven-kilometer walk has seven stops where you will be able to enjoy local food and superb wine while also spending time with your friends and discussing the various topics your busy daily schedule prevented you from discussing lately. Apart from your friends, you will also have a chance to meet new people with whom it’s easy to find things in common since everyone at the Wine & Walk is bound together by love for Istria and the excellent Istrian culinary products.
2. Tasting the superb Istrian wines
Here’s all you need to know: eight superb Istrian winemakers! You’ll hardly get another opportunity to taste so many fine and diverse Istrian wines in a single day. The walk starts at the famous Santa Lucia vineyard, owned by Istrian winemaker Kozlović, and later you’ll pass through the renowned wine cellars of Cattunar and Veralda. Of course, along with wine, the seven refreshment stations will serve you local Istrian products, to be enjoyed by every lover of Istrian cuisine.
3. A visit to Buje
Buje are the starting and finishing point for the Istria Wine & Walk. This quaint little town atop a northwest Istrian hill offers all a typical Istrian landscape can give and I never miss a chance for a visit, no matter how short. This winemaking locale is also known for its superb Istrian olive oil and homemade honey, so I stock up during every visit. Truffles fans will enjoy the Zigante store and all visitors to Buje are encouraged to try the local San Servolo beer.
4. A walk through the lovely nature
Istria Wine & Walk isn’t just a culinary experience but also a wonderful walk through the Istrian landscape – olive gardens, vineyards and enchanting vistas from hilltops and pebbled paths… There’s also the Škarline Nature Park, a lush verdant canyon made by the eponymous creek on its way towards the Mirna river. This peaceful oasis is an ideal location for a day trip, a picnic and some relaxation.
5. A surprise for all visitors
Best for last, there is a small surprise for all who decide to attend this year’s Istria Wine & Walk. Bring your cameras and smartphones because all visitors will be eligible to participate in a contest for the best second Istria Wine & Walk photo. So come, enjoy this amazing event in Buje with your friends and take photos of your greatest moments. And you just might win the prize.
